My name is Arwen Rhea I have been grooming professionally for 8 years. I started off volunteering my time grooming and bathing dogs for the Pikes Peak Humane society. I was there three years struggling, sometimes painfully grooming the dogs to "look like the picture". I was always so proud when I could take a particularly ugly dog and transform him into a beautiful pet. I always have accredited my meager beginnings for helping me become the patient groomer I am today. Pound dogs usually aren't the most trained dogs around.
Today I specialize in puppies, older dogs, and dogs with behavior problems. I can do any groom that ends up on my table, but if someone calls and says they have a 2 year old rescue that's never been groomed give me about 3 grooming sessions and I can turn even the most devil dog into an angel.
My new little part time goal is to encourage shih tzu and schnauzer owners to branch away from the regular grooms. While I completely respect show style cuts, I also realize that most of these dogs I see are 100% pet dogs so why not have a little fun, and I'm not talking mo-hawks or color here. But why not give your shih tzu a wheaten head or grow your schnauzer ears and tail out? A client once brought me a schnauzer style book she found on a trip to Japan. The Japanese are far more advance on their creative schnauzer cut then we could ever dream of.
